Elena Barillas Flores, Art Teacher Community High School 734. 994.2025 ext. #36421 [email protected] Course Description: Students are guided in creating unique 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art using a variety of media which includes but is not limited to; acrylic paint, paste, collaged paper, found and salvaged items, wire, watercolor, pastel, ink, color pencil, photos, wood, fabric. The idea of mixed media is that each uniquely created work of art combines more than one media. Students are encouraged to use extraordinary materials and recycled supplies to create original works of art. Studio Performance: The standards are HIGH in this class. Student should work consistently during each session. Students are expected to be engaged with the process and attempt his/her best to remain focused on the learning process. Students should obtain appropriate supplies immediately upon arrival in the art room. TEXTING, PHONE CALLS OR OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE CLASSROOM. Breaks are not more than 5-10 minutes within a 90 min. class. Students must inform the teacher BEFORE leaving for a break. Breaks will not be taken during the first 15 minutes or the last fifteen minutes of the class. Absences and late arrivals must be excused in PowerSchool. The student must use the clay, tools and supplies as instructed and returns all supplies to the appropriate storage areas. Each individual must clean up his/her work area 10 minutes to the end of the session PLEASE NOTE: Incomplete or missing artwork or writing will be recorded as a zero until the assignment is completed and turned into the instructor. If the student has an excused absence she/he may receive full credit IF they make arrangements with the teacher immediately upon their return to school.
In Class Assignments: 25 points Preparatory sketching, writing and reading that promote critical and creative thinking will be assigned . Writing assignments will also be given as a means to critique one’s own art or the artwork of others. Inspiration Journal Assignments 25 points Students in all classes will be keeping an “Inspiration Journal”. The student is required to bring in a spiral bound book (preferably un-lined/ solid paper) . Teacher will record in PS that the spiral-book has been shown to the teacher). Each homework assignment is meant to inspire or prepare the student for the next big project. Presentation of Major Projects: 50 points “ Major Work” is the final work of art that is created after 1 -2 weeks of preparatory study and practice. Technical skill and creative and critical thinking will be assessed. PLEASE NOTE: The student MUST PERSONALLY present the work of art to the teacher BEFORE a score will be placed in PowerSchool. The student shows the work directly to the teacher (Elena Flores) and requests a grade. The student may also be asked to present the work for a grade during a critique. |
